On  Tuesday the 31st May as part of their Charity week, Credit Agricole CIB donated a very generous cheque of £6000 to go towards our Older People’s Project. This will fund some fantastic trips as well as brilliant activities for our Older People.

Thank You Credit Agricole!!

The pensioners went to the William Morris Gallery in Walthamstow on Friday 29th April.

They were supported by a large group of 15 volunteers from Credit Agricole CIB.

They toured the gallery, ate packed lunches and then had tea & cake at the gallery bistro. A lovely day was had by all!

On Thursday the 21st of April our prospective Girlguides met up for the very first time!

They were set a hat challenge where they had to create a hat that represents their  personality.

This was followed by a catwalk which encouraged the girls to explain why the hat reflects their interests.

The session was very successful and the girls had a really good time.

This Thursday 28th April from 6-7pm Girlguiding are holding a FREE taster event at St Hilda’s for guides to experience and find out what guiding is all about!

Join us for an hour of fun, creativity and enjoyment!

On Good Friday the lovely members of our Older People’s Project enjoyed an afternoon of Easter activities and games, followed by our annual Easter Bonnet making competition.

We were very grateful for Canary Wharf Group’s support following a donation of £40,000 which has enabled our organisation to purchase a 16 seat disabled accessible minibus. We are delighted to have given it the name George, in honour of Sir George Iacobescu CBE, Chairman of Canary Wharf Group. This will be a permanent reminder of CWG’s generosity in supporting this much needed service.

The minibus will be make a fantastic difference to the lives of a great many older people in Tower Hamlets, bringing independence and quality of life to some 40 people each week. It will enable us to provide transport and bring service users to our Sonali Gardens Day Centre, many of whom have experienced strokes or suffer from chronic ill health. As a result of CWG’s support, older people will be able to access vital rehabilitative services such as exercises, primary health care including chiropody, intergenerational activities, enjoy outings, and most importantly be part of the community.

Above: Yesterday’s visit to Canary Wharf was organised by Howard Dawber Managing Director, Strategy at Canary Wharf Group plc – involving a tour of CWG office by Sonali Gardens Day Centres users, refreshments, and meeting with Sir George Iacobescu CBE, Chairman of Canary Wharf Group. It was an opportunity for service users and St Hilda’s staff to say a big thank you to Sir George and CWG for its support.

On the 8th of March 2016 St Hilda’s celebrated International Women’s Day highlighting social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.

We were lucky enough to have guests from

  • USwitch offering advice on affordable energy
  • Share-UK collecting data for a heritage project involving women activists from East London
  • GirlGuiding  promoting the organisation and signing up volunteers to get involved in the new unit opening this Spring at St Hilda’s

We also enjoyed a delicious Bangladeshi curry for lunch which was followed by a very energetic hula fit class taken by hulafitwithshakira.

Thank you all for your support on the day and thank you to all our volunteers who made it possible to run the event.

Last year St Hilda’s East raised a total of £7,205.59 all thanks to the 60 individuals who signed up and walked the 10k as part of the London Legal Walk.

This year we are walking again and are looking for walkers to join Team St Hilda’s.

The event is brilliantly organised by the London Legal Support trust and ends on Carey Lane with a fun street party where you can grab some food, drinks or refreshments whilst watching street performances.

Two representatives from the Worshipful Company of Fan Makers visited St. Hilda’s East Community Centre’s Older People’s Project on Thursday 11 February 2016 and very generously presented a cheque for £1,300.  Older People’s Project members were delighted to welcome Mr Dinesh Naidu and Dr Jeff Bines and greatly enjoyed the chance to show off their own collection of fans.  Vicky Harrison, Co-ordinator of the Older Person’s project said ‘The donation makes an enormous difference to our service users and will help to run our activities, including outings.’  Ernie Wright, a regular user of the Project’s Lunch Club Plus service said ‘It’s an oasis in the desert, it’s good to have company and not be lonely at home’.

Thank you so much for your kind support
