Creative Space in East London

Adult & Wellbeing, all events

Here is what some of our members have said about Creative Space

“Creative Space is a gentle and loving nudge forward on my healing journey”.

“To just be in a space with good people. I enjoyed myself and I made something I can use and because I had a good time, my mind and body were relaxed which helped my mental wellbeing.”

“Alexandra* is really enjoying her activities at St Hilda’s. She has been more engaged and alert since mixing and being around people. Big thank you as we were getting increasingly worried about her isolation. She enjoyed working together with others and the camaraderie which she does not get living alone.”

Creative Space in East London meets every Monday 2pm – 4pm

Our creative space in east London aims to improve wellbeing through creative activities in a supportive and safe space. We offer weekly all-ability creative sessions such as creative writing, beading, pottery, mosaics, open to all.

Creative Space brings together diverse people with mental health needs in Tower Hamlets to meet and try creative activities. It meets every Monday 2-4pm and provides a weekly creative outlet of self-expression and positively impacts mental health through creative activities.

Creative space is free to join and open to adults in Tower Hamlets who are experiencing mental health issues. We will ask you to also register with Mind in Tower Hamlets, Redbridge and Newham when you join come to Creative Space.

Creative space is fun and relaxed and anyone can have a go at an activity, you don’t need to have previous experience or a level of ability. It also offers the opportunity to spend time with others, to socialise and build social connections.

Creative Space is a fun and safe environment for people to explore their creativity and cultivate new hobbies. It is a space that:

  • encourages the discovery of new passions & talents
  • aims to provide a social coming together to build community
  • improve confidence
  • learn new skills
  • have fun.

The group provides a creative outlet of expression, to have a positive effect on mental wellbeing, to challenge one’s perception of what their personal limitations are. We also invite NHS Talking Therapies to deliver sessions as external facilitators, these sessions provide a space for service users to speak to a professional about mental health needs. Our Talking Therapies sessions run every 8 weeks and allow us to have a mental health check in with the group where necessary.

Our Wellbeing Facilitator designs and supports activities that boost mental wellness and has developed close relationships with creative services in the local community to support this group. For example, wheel throwing and mindful pottery with Columbia Road Clay.

Here are some of the activities that we have done:

  • Candle making
  • Mixed media art
  • Pebble painting
  • Creative writing including writing letter to selfe
  • Mug and coaster decorating
  • Jewellery making
