Working in partnership

Working in partnership with volunteers from City law firms, St Hilda’s East provides free legal advice in East London at both our Sonali Gardens Centre and Club Row sites.

Running alongside St. Hilda’s East’s advice service, our free legal advice in East London offers support with matters related to housing, welfare benefits, consumer and contract and employment.

The legal advice clinics cannot help with settlement agreements, immigration, family, crime or debt matters. We are not able to take on case work, and do not represent clients at tribunals or at court.

The service is for those with an annual salary of £50k or below, as we aim to support those who would otherwise be unable to afford legal representation.

You will need to bring all the relevant papers to enable us to give you the best advice such as tenancy agreement, DWP letters, contract of employment and employee handbook

What we can help with:

Matters relating to:

HOUSING

We can help with issues such as eviction, overcrowding, rent arrears, complaints to landlords. Our adjacent welfare advice service can help with housing applications and form filing

WELFARE BENEFITS (Wednesdays only)

We can help with responding to DWP letters and checking your entitlement. Our bi-lingual welfare advice service can also help you with benefits and ensure you are receiving everything you are entitled to

We can help with issues such as disputing a utilities, phone or internet bill if you think you have been charged the incorrect amount. If you’ve bought something that has turned out to be faulty or if you have ordered something and not received it.
