Our free Welfare Advice Service at our community centre in East London provides a lifeline to many people – particularly those who struggle accessing rights and entitlements, due to a lack of knowledge and language barriers.

We provide advice and can support you with completing forms or by advocating for you via phone or in writing.

Our welfare advice service is for Tower Hamlet residents ONLY.

Welfare and benefits

We can help you to find your way through the benefits system and apply for a range of benefits to help you maximise your income and receive your full benefit entitlement.

You may be entitled to benefits such as:

  • Attendance Allowance (AA)
  • Carers Allowance
  • Council Tax Reduction
  • Disability Living Allowance for disabled children (DLA)
  • Personal Independence Payments (PIP)
  • Pension Credit
  • Universal Credit

We can help you with

  • Checking your entitlement
  • Mandatory reconsiderations
Please note: we cannot help with Appeals.

Lower-level debt matters

We can help you with responding to debt issues such as

  • Rent arrears
  • Benefit or utility repayment plans and energy efficiency
  • Minor disputes
  • Watersure/Waterhelp applications

Basic housing

We can help you with completing housing forms and documents. Our legal advice clinic can offer more detailed advice on housing issues.

How to access the free advice centre at St. Hilda’s East

Book an appointment for up to 1 hour

WHEN: Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday 10-12pm

WHERE: 18 Club Row, E2 7EY

We give appointments 1 week in advance and do not keep a waiting list.

Drop in sessions available

WHEN & WHERE: Thursdays 10am -12 noon at 18 Club Row, E2 7EY and Fridays 10am – 12 noon at Sonali Gardens, 79 Tarling Street, E1 0AT

No appointment necessary. Doors open at 9.30am
