Women’s Group in East London

What our members say

“ Sometimes you just feel as if, is it just me with that problem? But then you hear from another person in the group, and you realize no, I’m not the only one. And that gives you more confidence in knowing there are more people with it as well.”

“The group has given me a space where I can come and just be myself”

Our women’s group in east London – Women and Wellbeing – meets fortnightly on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month 2-4pm.

Our women’s group in east London provides local self-identifying women with a variety of activities and development opportunities in a culturally sensitive and safe space.

The group aims to

  • reduce social exclusion and isolation
  • encourage inclusion
  • build a better, stronger community where women are free to develop, flourish and realise their own potential
  • cultivate social connections
  • allow the women to emotionally bolster one another with peer-to-peer support

The women often discuss a range of topics and have a platform to speak openly about their mental health in a women’s only space. This is important as many have said they would not feel as open to speak openly in a mixed gender space. Women and Wellbeing provides purposeful activity and gives an escape from usual pressures, which positively impacts wellbeing.

Our women’s group in east London offers a variety of internally and externally led workshops and activities each week, which aim to increase confidence, reduce isolation, and improve overall wellbeing. From an attendee-led aromatherapy workshop to a Tower Hamlet’s Talking Therapies directed ‘Self-Care and Mental Health’ session, women benefit from an opportunity to take time to focus on themselves, get creative, learn new skills and create friendships.

Our Wellbeing Facilitator conscientiously offers activities that boost mental wellness and has fostered close relationships with creative services in the local community to support this. For example, we ran a puppet making with Historic Royal Palaces team based at Tower Bridge.

Here are some examples of activities we have done:

  • Tote bag embroidery
  • Making eco period products
  • Celebrating International Women’s Day
  • Potting plants
  • Macrame
  • Henna painting
